SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • Scissors
  • Thin macramé cord
  • Scotch tape

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Cut (2) 16” pieces of thin macramé cord. Tie a knot 3” from each end to attach both pieces of cord together.
  2. Use scotch tape to attach each end of cord to a work surface of your choice – a table, chair, etc.
  3. Cut about (50) 24” pieces of macramé cord.
  4. Fold each of the 50 cords in half and begin attaching to the 16” piece of macramé cord by creating a reverse larkshead knot along the 16” cord.
  5. Starting with the farthest cord on the left, create a vertical half hitch knot by wrapping the cord on the left (knotting cord) all the way around the knot-bearing cord, creating a loop by bringing it under the knotting cord and back over itself. Repeat 3 times across.
  6. Skip across 4 cords and repeat process, but create knots that go in the left direction.
  7. Repeat steps 5-6 across the 16” cord and continue process down the cord, alternating directions to create a unique pattern.
  8. Once design is complete, trim excess cord, leaving about a half inch of cord at the ends. Use fingertips to create a frayed edge on the cord.

JOANN Hacks:

  • Be sure to pull cord tightly when making each knot, so the design stays straight and secured.
